If you’re looking for some of the most fattening and greasy but oh-so tasty burgers around, head over to Fatty’s Pub & Grille in Dekalb. I became acquainted with Fatty’s while I was a student at NIU.
Fatty’s is frequented by college kids but it is also a popular hangout for everyone – in addition to the bar, there’s an airy area for watching sports games and playing darts.
Fatty’s is probably most famous for its cajun fried potato salad, which is heavenly. However, after a few bites you may wonder what will happen to your arteries if you continue eating. The potato salad is extremely rich and filling so don’t get the full order. You’ve been warned!
A favorite of mine (in addition to the potato salad) is the Wayne Pretzky sandwich. If you like chicken and love giant soft pretzels, what could be better than a grilled chicken breast topped with bacon (I took the bacon off as I don’t eat pork), swiss cheese, honey mustard, served on a Bavarian pretzel roll with lettuce, tomato, and red onion?
Another popular menu item is the Fat Boy burger, a favorite of my father’s. This burger is dripping with calories but supposedly it is amazing. It consists of two 1/3 pound Angus burgers topped with cheddar and American cheese, grilled onions and a special “secret” house sauce. The Fat Boy is served on an onion roll.
Entrees such as fish and steak also can be ordered. Lite and kid’s menus are available. The bar and grille always has specials and features fun events throughout the year.
